loungey saturday morning café au lait

This morning has been a cozy lounge-fest of magazines and coffee – my absolute favorite combination. It is so relaxing with no phone, no computer and total immersion in glossy mags full of entertainment, movies, holiday party hair, sparkly nails, and gift guides! The only thing that makes this scenario even more delish is really pretty coffee.

Unique characteristics of our parents are bound to surface occasionally, whether you like it or not. Mine is making every day food a little extra special when I am in a whimsical kind of mood. This no doubt roots back to when my mom would serve me ice cold milk in a wine glass. I cannot help but to smile when I think of this because it made her so giddy to do that.

On deliciously lazy mornings, I like things easy … but of course still tasty. So, I made a 4 minute café au lait. To be fair, the coffee was already brewed when I had this bright idea, so yours might be a couple minutes more!

loungey saturday morning café au lait
1/2 c strongly brewed hot coffee [french-pressed if you have just a few more minutes]
2/3 c almond milk [or your fave type of milk]
1 tsp agave nectar
cinnamon
nutmeg
whipped cream, for topping

Warm up the milk until hot. The loungey method is 45-60 seconds in the microwave. Pour milk into a coffee cup. Add hot coffee. Add a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg [freshly ground if you have this smart nutmeg grinder that I am quite in love with] then stir in the agave nectar until all is combined. Top of with a fluffy mountain of whipped cream and add a dash more cinnamon and nutmeg. Enjoy your lounge-fest!

  1. I like your picture on top! Very sexy.
I drink coffee so rarely at home that I actually like Trader Joe’s instant, when necessary. Is that wrong??

  2. In the last photo, notice the “legs” of whipped cream flavor mingling downwards into the coffee, like a fine wine in a crystal glass. “-)
